How to sync podcasts to your Rockbox device from Mac

Rockbox doesn't have a podcast app hiding in its menus. To Rockbox, a podcast episode is just an audio file — no subscriptions, no auto-refresh, no unplayed badge. So "syncing podcasts to Rockbox" really means: get new episode files onto the device, in a folder Rockbox browses well, without drowning your music in show clutter or re-copying episodes you've already heard.
Does Rockbox support podcasts natively?
No. There's no RSS client or feed subscription built into the firmware. Rockbox's job starts and ends at playing audio files it finds on the device — following shows, downloading new episodes, and deciding what's new all has to happen on your computer first, same as loading music (see syncing music to a Rockbox iPod for the file-transfer basics).
Folder layout that keeps episodes separate from music
Give podcasts their own top-level folder, with one subfolder per show:
Podcasts/Show Name/Episode Title.mp3— shows stay grouped and don't interleave with albums in the file browser.- Keep this separate from wherever your music lives (
Music/Artist/Album/…), so a podcast-heavy sync never touches your album folders.
Getting episodes onto the device
There are two ways to do this, depending on how hands-on you want to be:
Manual:download episode files from a podcast app or a show's website, then drag them into Podcasts/<show name>/ on the device yourself. Works fine for a show or two you check in on occasionally.
Auto-download and sync:follow a show by pasting its RSS feed URL into Diskoteca, set an auto-download rule — keep the latest few episodes, everything newer than a week, or unplayed only — and let device sync handle the rest. Sync compares what's downloaded against what's already on the device and copies only the difference: new episodes go on, episodes that have fallen out of scope come off. Keeping track of what you've heard
Rockbox itself doesn't track a played state for podcasts the way a phone podcast app does. If you're using an app to manage subscriptions, that's where played/unplayed lives; on the device itself, the honest answer is: finished an episode, delete it next sync (or manually) — one less file to scroll past next time.
The routine
- Plug in the device; it mounts like a drive.
- New episodes download automatically, or you drop files in by hand.
- Sync — only new episodes copy on, finished ones fall off.
- Eject, pocket, go.

Does Rockbox support podcasts?
